Most people have a misconception about government grants. They think government grants are a hard nut to crack. So though there are many opportunities from the government, a lot of people feel reluctant to apply for grant online. Here are 7 easy steps to apply for government grants. These are just rough guidelines to make applying for a grant easier, and steps may vary.
1) Use your favorite web browser for finding the site for federal grants. There is loads of information available on such sites. Within a couple of minutes you can get the basics on grants and the procedure for applying. Government sites may be confusing, but after some time you will find the right section.
2) If you're not willing to spend enough time for reading through those details at the moment, just click the "Get Registered" button. Most sites have this feature that lets you apply to the site. You can most likely find this at the specific section for applicants.
3) Usually, there are 2 options for you in the registration section. First, you may register as an organization. Second, you may get yourself registered (the registration will recognize you as the candidate and individual). Click the option which is appropriate for you. Now is the time you work through these steps for filling out in detail your registration information.
4) Now that you finished the registration process, get back to the home page. There should be an option that lets you do grant searches. This option is available in the specific section for Applicants. Just look at the quick-links menu to the right of the page. Some sites also allow you to sign-up and get e-mail alerts.
5) The grant search page will generally show 3 options here. The first option lets you search with keywords, the second one lets you search by opportunity number for funding (or search by specific CFDA numbers). And when you're looking up a grant in particular and know the tracking number you just input and click search to find the specific grant.
6) In most of the cases, people look for basic info on grants and run their search with specific keywords when they want to apply for grant online. It is a good idea, though. You can just put the keyword and hit 'search.' It shouldn't be a problem here if you've left the other 2 options blank. Then again, there are other tabs if you choose not to search by keywords.
7) The 'Grant Search' webpage lets you browse by specific category and also by a specific agency providing that grant. It is also a good idea to take advantage of that 'Advanced Search' button/tab. This one is a keyword search interface but includes more criteria for filtering specific things for your site. This is a great feature when you want to apply for grant online.
Did you know that the U.S. government gives out billions in grants to over 18 million people annually? Well I do, since I received over $14,000 to start-up my new business.
